This first-place Cup of Excellence winner is devastatingly delicious. At auction, it commanded a price of $55 per pound ($67 after roasting), and we think it is worth even more. Grown by Emerson Narvaez in Cumbitara, Narino, this SL28 varietal (a close cousin of Bourbon) is the result of the unique terroir of Emerson’s farm and his unusual processing methods. You will find the notes of red wine, raspberry and chocolate to be incredibly well-defined.
It is only with superlative coffee quality like this that Emerson is able to thrive in a region otherwise dominated by narco-trafficking. Your purchase will support his efforts to keep farmers legally employed and to turn back the tide of violence in his community.
